E2 | Conversations with IBM Bob On Database Modernisation
Monday October 26, 2026 11:30am - 12:30pm EDT
IBM Bob makes a huge difference to understanding, modernising and administering systems developed with Db2 (both LUW and z/OS) as the underlying database. I will talk about my real-world experiences bringing IBM Bob into my workflow and the benefits it made in terms of efficiency and quality of the outcomes. I will also explain why I turned from an AI sceptic to enthusiast once I got hold of the right tools.
After struggling to get value out of other AI assistants when modernising and administering Db2 applications (both LUW and z/OS), I turned to IBM Bob when it became available. Having become an "AI assistant cynic" I quickly became a real enthusiast. IBM Bob understands the technology I am working with and provides real value, but in a way that leaves me always in control. This presentation describes my journey from initial experimentation to real world business value. I'll describe how IBM Bob facilitated system understanding, assisted with structural change and application modernisation.

Monday October 26, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT
Ensuring high availability and resilience is a core requirement for modern enterprise data platforms. In Db2 Data Sharing environments, lock structures are a fundamental component for maintaining system stability and consistent performance under continuous, mission-critical workloads.
At Itaú Unibanco S.A., Db2 for z/OS supports essential banking applications operating 24x7, across transactional and batch workloads in a large-scale production environment. As part of its ongoing resilience and architecture evolution strategy, Itaú adopted the Db2 Lock Structure Asynchronous Duplex capability.
This implementation strengthened the platform’s resilience posture by increasing fault tolerance, enhancing operational continuity during infrastructure maintenance, and reinforcing overall system stability.
In this presentation, specialists from Itaú and IBM share practical insights from the initiative, including architectural motivations, implementation considerations, testing approaches, and results achieved. The discussion highlights how close collaboration between client and vendor supported the successful adoption of advanced Db2 z/OS capabilities in a complex enterprise environment.

D4 | A Modern Approach to Db2 Backup & Recovery: Snapshot Technology with Cloud Integration
Monday October 26, 2026 3:20pm - 4:20pm EDT
This session presents a comprehensive approach to database backup and recovery using Snapshot Backup technology integrated with Cloud infrastructure. The solution leverages the Db2 ACS Scripted interface to automate backup operations on Linux systems, enabling efficient data protection strategies for enterprise databases. The implementation utilizes Linux LVM (Logical Volume Manager) to create consistent point-in-time snapshots of database volumes, ensuring data integrity during backup operations. By combining snapshot-based backup techniques with cloud object storage capabilities, this approach delivers a robust disaster recovery solution that minimizes backup windows, reduces storage costs, and enhances data availability. The scripted automation through Db2 ACS interface ensures consistent, repeatable backup procedures while maintaining operational efficiency in Linux environments. This methodology addresses critical requirements for modern database management, including rapid recovery time objectives (RTO), minimal recovery point objectives (RPO), and compliance with data retention policies through cloud-based archival strategies.

This presentation picks my personal favorites that I believe all developers should get knowledgeable on and possibly applied to current and future applications. Developers should be informed of all of newer features in Db2 and this presentation is a great summary for this topic. When it comes to performance, often times the answer to better performance is rewriting queries different ways, and redesigning programs differently. Depending on how you write your SQL, you give the optimizer more or fewer choices .In this session we will go over understanding performance basics and common made SQL mistakes and the impact they have on the optimizer's choices.
Bring our application DBA's and developers to this session to train them and avoid common SQL performance pitfalls

E5 | Db2 is Your AI Platform: Five Proven AI Use Cases to Build Right Now
Monday October 26, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
Db2 now has a complete AI application stack — Vector Storage, Vector Similarity Search, Vector Index, and LLM Integration. Once you know what this stack can do, the natural next question is: what can you build with it? That is exactly what this session addresses. Drawing on industry research and global enterprise adoption data, we examine AI use cases that organisations have already deployed at scale and validated in production. For each, we explain the business problem it solves, how Db2's AI stack maps to the solution, and what implementation looks like — using data most Db2 customers already have. Business leaders will leave with a clear, evidence-backed starting point for AI investment. Developers and architects will leave with a concrete path from proven use case to working implementation. The stack is ready. The use cases are proven. Come find out which ones to build next.
