D10 | Optimizing Db2 BLU Performance: Defragmentation, Data Clustering, and Reduced Logging at Scale
Wednesday October 28, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
As BLU workloads scale, maintaining optimal insert performance, log efficiency, and data organization becomes increasingly important. This session addresses these challenges through defragmentation, data clustering, and reduced logging. We will examine internal storage behavior and share proven techniques to reclaim space, reduce log overhead, and sustain high-throughput workloads.

E10 | Permitting, masking and trusting, a deep dive into 3 new Db2 12.1 security features
Wednesday October 28, 2026 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
This session is a deep dive into 3 new Db2 12.1 security features, Reduce file permissions, RCAC mask at read enhancements, and defining a Trusted Context using the new trust procedure and client callbacks. This will be a face paced session offering practical details on how to make use of these new features in more depth than a what's new session can cover. Reduced file permissions address the common concern of everyone having access to the db2diag.log (and others). Mask at read offers an alternative masking behaviour with fundamental changes to SQL behaviour. And Trust Procedures allow custom definitions of trust for determining a trusted connection.

F12 | Cost Optimization Strategies for Db2 in Public Cloud
Wednesday October 28, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT
As organizations continue modernizing enterprise database environments and moving workloads to public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, controlling operational cost has become one of the most critical success factors for cloud-based Db2 deployments.
This session provides a practical deep dive into cost optimization strategies for IBM Db2 environments running in public cloud infrastructures. Using real-world customer experiences and operational lessons learned, we will explore how to optimize compute, storage, networking, licensing, high availability architectures, backup strategies, and operational automation while maintaining enterprise-grade performance, resiliency, and security.
The session will cover common hidden cost drivers in cloud Db2 environments, including overprovisioned infrastructure, inefficient storage configurations, excessive replication traffic, backup retention overhead, idle standby resources, monitoring inefficiencies, and cloud-native operational challenges.
Attendees will learn actionable techniques for reducing cloud spend while improving operational efficiency through automation, observability, workload optimization, right-sizing strategies, and intelligent HA/DR design decisions.
This presentation is ideal for Db2 DBAs, cloud architects, infrastructure teams, SRE engineers, and technical leaders responsible for designing, operating, or optimizing Db2 environments in public cloud platforms.

A13 | Your AI Toolbox in Db2: Picking the Right Model When Everyone's Telling You to Use an LLM
Wednesday October 28, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
The AI problems landing on the desks of DBAs and application developers this year don't all need the same model. Some call for a Large Language Model. Others need a forecasting model, a clustering algorithm, or an embedding model. Plenty can be solved by predictive techniques that have been working quietly for years. One drawer of the toolbox has been getting all the attention. The skill that matters most, knowing which tool fits the problem, has gone quiet. If your data lives in Db2, much of the toolbox is already there. This session lays the toolbox out on the table. Two axes, what data you have and whether you have labels, organize the AI landscape into a 2×2 you can hold in your head: predictive and unsupervised models for structured data, the same for unstructured data, plus embeddings and generative AI.Then we map every drawer to a Db2 capability you can use today. In-database machine learning for classification, regression, and clustering. Native vector storage and similarity search. Built-in integration with external embedding and language models. Python frameworks for retrieval-augmented applications and AI agents. We close with production patterns we've seen ship, across the full range of model types and use cases.Whether you live in SQL or Python, you'll leave knowing which tool to reach for, and where to start.

B13 | Wrapping up Db2 11.5
Wednesday October 28, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
While Db2 12.1 has been out for some time with great new content, most companies are still using Db2 11.5 which has tremendous business value. Prior to upgrading to Db2 12.1 clients should take advantage of what is in 11.5 and get the most ROI with what they already have. In this session we'll go through an overview of the high value capabilities of Db2 11.5 - covering 11.5.0 through 11.5.9. This will include availability, recoverability, performance, warehouse, security, multi-model, AI capabilities and more.

D13 | Beyond the Comfort Zone: Managing, Tuning & Cross-Platform Migration of Highly Active, Mission-Critical Db2 Environments
Wednesday October 28, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
Managing complex Db2 LUW environments requires moving past standard practices to achieve zero-downtime availability and extreme performance. This session offers a technical blueprint for executing high-stakes cross-platform migrations from legacy AIX systems to modern Linux on Power10 and AWS/RDS cloud infrastructures. We will analyze the tuning parameters required to stabilize environments by handling 180,000 SQL statements per second, 3 TB of daily log changes, and 10,000 concurrent connections. Attendees will learn to optimize OS, storage, and network layers under strict HADR, Audits and encryption requirements. Finally, we will demonstrate how to automate database fleets using Python and leverage Db2 12.1’s native AI and Genius Hub for agentic self-healing.
